This was a fourth year course that I taught at the University of Warwick in 2014/15. The idea was to introduce general relativity for a mathematical audience. I'd hoped to cover local well posedness for Einstein's equations but time ran out. In the end I only lectured this course once, so there are a few things I would change about it if I were to teach it again.

A brief table of contents:

  • Introduction
  • Chapter 1: the wave equation and special relativity
  • Chapter 2: Lorentzian geometry
  • Chapter 3: Einstein's equations
  • Appendix: Tensors, manifolds and Lie groups

As with all the notes on my site, beware of errors!
