Welcome to DPMMS 

 

The Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics (DPMMS) (including the Statistical Laboratory as a sub-department) conducts teaching and research across a wide range of pure mathematics, probability and statistics.   DPMMS currently hosts over 100 Academic and Research Staff and around 80 PhD students over three Pavilions as part of the Centre for Mathematical Sciences.

awarded the Royal Society Sylvester Medal 2026 for playing an instrumental role in the development of the Schramm-Loewner evolution, a random curve which describes the scaling limit of many models from statistical mechanics in two dimensions.

awarded LMS Whitehead Prize for groundbreaking work in logarithmic algebraic geometry, unifying algebraic, tropical and moduli theories, and creating powerful new methods for studying geometric degenerations and curve-counting theories.
