The group of birational maps frm projetive space to itself, also known as the Cremona group, is a classical object of algebraic geometry that is of interest to not only birational geometers, but also geometric group theorists, dynamicists, and more. I will give an overview of different ways to approach this object, and how little we know beyond dimension 2.
