How many graphs have n vertices and m edges, and no triangle? For a long time we have had a pretty good answer to this question except when m has order of magnitude n^{3/2}, which turns out to be a “critical regime” from the point of view of lower tail large deviations. We'll discuss some new methods to study this kind of problem. Joint work with Huy Tuan Pham.
