I am actively involved with making mathematics accessible to both underprivileged and underrepresented groups.
Recent outreach events
In 2024 I co-organised a 'Snapshots of Research in the CMS' with Amelia Drew. I also gave a webinar, slides here, called 'Baking a Black Hole' for the She Talks Science series run by Murray Edwards College.
In 2023 I gave a talk as part of 'Girls in Physics' at the Highgate School in London. I organised an 'Introduction to Maths Research' event at KCL and I helped Claudia Garetto and Katy Clough (QMUL) organise a London Women in Maths Day.
In 2022 I was interviewed for a KCL women in maths event. I helped Amelia Drew run a Diversity in DAMTP event, and I gave a lightening talk at a Celebrating Women in the Mathematical Sciences event in Warwick.
Recent outreach talks
- April 2024: a talk about the Monster Function of Weierstrass, given to high-school students at an Open Day in Cambridge.
- November 2023: a talks about travelling wave solutions to PDEs, given to undergraduates at the Trinity Math Society in Cambridge.
- April 2023: an introduction to wave equations studied at King's College London (& my immense admiration of James Clerk Maxwell), given to undergraduates at KCL.
- March 2023: a talk about How to track your cat: the maths behind GPS, given at the annual Oxbridge exchange between the Mirzakhani Society in Oxford and the Emmy Noether Society in Cambridge.
- December 2021: an introduction to general relativity and PDEs, given to students at AIMS Rwanda.
African Institutes for Mathematical Sciences
The past 3 academic years I have taught a 3-week M.Sc. course on 'Partial Differential Equations' to students completing Masters degrees in mathematics & data science at AIMS Rwanda.

From August 2014 to July 2015 I was a tutor at AIMS South Africa. Here is a picture of our incredible students on their graduation day.

The Edinburgh Maths Circle
During my graduate studies in Edinburgh, I started the Edinburgh Maths Circle, which is based on a similar event in Cambridge. These are popular and highly successful events, with on average 200 children (aged 5-15) and parents attending each Maths Circle. I helped organise 13 Maths Circle events and 3 teaching training events and I was awarded the University of Edinburgh's Sir William Darling Memorial Prize for my efforts with the Edinburgh Maths Circle. An essential part in our success has been the fantastic efforts of the Edinburgh Outreach Team, led by Francesca Iezzi.
Bright Club
Bright Club is a concept that aims to promote public engagement by scientists. I have given three stand-up comedy performances through Bright Club. The first of these was about Black Holes (and my poor culinary skills) at the 43rd Edinburgh Bright Club in 2017. You can find the video below:
I also gave a stand-up comedy routine about the electroweak theory of particle physics at the Glasgow Bright Club in 2019 and at the 49th Edinburgh Bright Club. The video from Edinburgh is below:
The Emmy Noether Society
In 2012 I co-founded with Anna Seigal the Emmy Noether Society for female and non-binary mathematicians at Cambridge University. I was very proud to be in Cambridge to celebrate the society's 10 year anniversary in March 2022 (picture below).
